Ludicrous Size SUV; The CXT is Here
"Shame on International for making this thing," said Daniel Becker, director of the Sierra Club's global warming and energy program. "This is a monster truck that only a Hummer could love, and it shows that without government leadership, the auto industry will lead us to more irresponsible, gas-guzzling vehicles."
Fuel mileage of the CXT? From 7 to 10 miles to the gallon, despite its diesel engine, which uses less fuel than a regular gas engine. International is not required to report a specific mileage figure because under the United States' fuel economy regulations, the heaviest sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks are exempt from mileage requirements, although they are still subject to emissions rules. nytimes.com

Is there anything citizens can do to encourage the government to impose heavier taxes on vehicles like these (CXT, H2) that waste gas and degrade the roadways? Even better yet, shouldn't these be street-illegal, or at least require a large-vehicle driver's license????

What's wrong with this truck? It was designed, built, and marketed for the large contractor market. It is a TRUCK make no mistake about it, this was never designed to be an SUV. This TRUCK was designed to hook a 30' flat bed onto it, load a backhoe or a couple bob cats on the flat bed, and Safely tow these items and a four to six man crew down the road. Have you ever seen a standard 5,000 pound 3/4 ton pick-up with a trailer loaded with 30,000 pounds of backhoe driving down the road and wonder how that pick-up can possibly stop, well guess what, in an emergency situation, it can't. That is why IHC developed the CTX. It's not IHC's fault that Nick Lachey or any other spoiled brat thinks he needs one of these. Oh and Ford and Chevy both have similar machines they all cost around $95,000.00 nicely un-equiped.
