Although the Oscars for the most part are a mere drumbeat for coming attractions. Mr Whitaker provided us with an inspiring and moving acceptance speech and I quote part of it here:
Because when I first started acting, it was because of my
desire to connect to everyone. To that thing inside each of us. That
light that I believe exists in all of us. Because acting for me is
about believing in that connection and it's a connection so strong,
it's a connection so deep, that we feel it. And through our combined
belief, we can create a new reality.

I am convinced there is a doctrine in place at ESPN to self promote while stirring it up.
We will link to an article that ran in USA Today about their effort to correct errors but I think there is also a credo floating around that says exploit news stories to their fullest.
Be it in the shout fest on PTI or the endless themed shows focusing on NFL, College Sports or the NBA, the latest stories and breaking news should have teeth and grit. There must be good guys and bad guys, there must be tension and controversy and no story shall last just one day. Oh no! There must be days of unpeeling of the latest revelation on “our top story.”
This is cool if you are in a bar with a bunch of guys or just bored with reality and need a break, but damn, after a while it just weighs you down!
How can every story covered have such import? It can’t, but leave it to ESPN editors and on air folks to try! A few examples would be the Barry Bonds steroid saga, Kobe Bryant’s court case, and any player or coach who has run afoul with the law. Granted these are news stories involving sports figures and as such are newsworthy. But do they deserve the top of the hour bombast 24/7 ESPN devotes to them?
And so, as much as I love the access ESPN has brought to sports programming and entertainment, it isn’t ever far behind with the next bombastic tirade from on air folks using clever video techniques.
For these reasons, ESPN is very hard to ignore, but for the love of Christ put a little throttle control on some of this stuff because its burning a hole in my psyche!
ZuD you’ve been watching the Oscars since Bob Hopes’ days of hosting, what did you think?
Ellen DeGeneres is no Bob Hope!
Yeah but,
Ok she was tolerable, I watch mostly for the stars and the setups honoring the movies as a tradition. And that was great.
The TV commercials were almost Super Bowl like. What was your favorite?
The Apple iPhone commercial, duh! Only four more months. The most inspiring was the Saturn Aura ads where the owners of the car early on were allowed to have the Car of the Year award for a day and then send it on. Most clever.
UPDATE & Related The iPhone says hello
Your favorite song?
Had to be Randy Newman’s, Our Town. What is this. like the tenth time the poor boy has been nominated and yet nada! James Taylor sang the song with him which was a vibrant moment.
Any slams?
Well as long as you asked. It was painful watching Peter O’Toole stretched out face. Jack Nicholson’s bald head, but he’s so much fun to watch. My new crush Kate Winslet looked divine.
Why are you doing this Hollywood column thing?
Cause no one has sent in anything yet they need advise on. Just email me or put a comment in and we will get to the meat of it promptly.
A Historic Day… Ask ZuDfunck has Arrived! What is Ask ZuDfunck you ask? Well…A Q&A Blog for a sound bite addicted society.
A more elaborate definition is as follows…
Since counter culture Icons have no place in today’s five second sound bite society of thumb sucking numbskulls. We thought we would do the next best thing and give out advice, but with no consent!
And so it begins…
Our first Question:
I am addicted to televised sporting events, what can I do to stop?
Get a High Definition Plasma, overdose and die!
How come Bob Dylan is still popular and you ZuD are a washed up Hippy?
He has talent.
What is better Mac OSX or Windows Vista?
One is a copy of the other and you know which.
I masturbate daily is that wrong?
Who said that? I cant see ya.
Why is VOIP service such as Vonage better than the new AT&T?
It’s a cheaper alternative to traditional phone service because it leeches off the multi billion dollar development and infrastructure put in place by the old AT&T. Ironic isn’t it?
Why are your answers so short?
Cause you cant process long ones!
What’s the best blog to find ticket brokers?
If you have questions for this so called untalented counter culture icon has been ZuDfunck be sure to email or put in the comments and we will respond to them in our next post!

It amazes me as a Sports Addicted Media consumer how the media can continue to feed me the doses I need to stay compliant.
As the NFL season ended I was anxious about what I would do with out the weekly drip of games but amazingly I am still being fed enough to avoid withdrawal.
For example last weekend I had the Bud Shootout and of course this weekend I will have the Daytona 500 so I am staying relatively complacent as I pass another season of NFL. Next week I will have the NFL Combine so I think it is brilliant how the folks at the medias forefront are able to keep me complacent and satiated.
Judging by the numbing silence I have received since our last post. I assume no one cares about the resemblance between the Geico ad campaign and ZuDfunck. This is most unsettling as I would of hoped to garner up some sympathy from some corners of this cyber universe.
Don’t you care about the lack of respect this shows to ZuD and the countless hours spent developing the ZuDfunck character?
I would approach Geico myself but I know the lack of attorneys and clout just makes me look foolish! And I already have a lot of experience doing that! As you can see from the years we have spent posting these diatribes and soliloquies.
Compare these photos and see if you don't agree Geico.com ripped off ZuD's image.
