Avril Lavigne's Imagine, the Flaming Lips' (Just Like) Starting Over, Corinne Bailey Rae's I'm Losing You and Ben Harper's Beautiful Boy have been added to the lineup for Instant Karma, a 21-track double album of John Lennon covers due June 12. The Amnesty International project, which also offers dozens of downloads by such artists as Duran Duran, Deftones, Ozzy Osbourne and Willie Nelson, will benefit victims of the Darfur genocide. Joining previously announced acts U2, R.E.M. and Green Day are Snow Patrol, Matisyahu, Los Lonely Boys and Jakob Dylan, who recorded Gimme Some Truth with George Harrison's son, Dhani.

Bob Dylan Like You’ve Never Heard Him Before

Zz72781355

Oh My God... Bob Dylan speaks! A series of MP3 links covering all that matters:

Today we present Mr. Tambourine Man himself, Bob Dylan. One of the most important and influential artists of the past century. The voice of an entire generation. Blonde On Blonde and Blood on the Tracks, etc. A man so complex, it takes a combined six actors to portray him in an upcoming biopic. And that’s not even scratching the surface of Bob Dylan’s legend. Sitting down with Rolling Stone founder and editor-in-chief Jann S. Wenner, Dylan ruminates about the music that inspired him as a young man, where he stands in terms of religion, the ongoing metamorphosis of his songs, the 1960s and The Beatles. Listen to five highlights from their conversation, and for the magazine’s definitive profile, pick up your copy of our 40th Anniversary issue on newsstands today.

Billy Joel, Piano Man Rocks Albany

Zz61f24ec9

Billy Joel Tuesday night at the Times Union Center in Albany injected the intimacy of a gin joint into a cavernous hockey arena; folded doo-wop and boogie-woogie into rock 'n' roll; and rattled off jokes between tunes like a borscht belt comic.

But the piano man also left his pop-star persona behind for a truly transcendental moment with more than 13,000 fans.

Joel closed out a nearly three-hour concert with his signature song "Piano Man."

Following the encores of "Only the Good Die Young" and "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant," Joel strapped on his harmonica, caught his breath and ran his fingers up and down the keys of his grand piano. The familiar string of opening notes that Joel has likely played thousands of times, and that his fans have definitely heard thousands of times, somehow sparkled as though it had been written Tuesday afternoon, hours before it was performed in the state capital.

Upon realizing that Joel was playing "Piano Man," the Times Union Center erupted.

Typepad versus tumblelogs, A Sages Lament

As I said in my previous post

I am not envious of the energy and excitement tumblelogs have brought to blogging.
Any positive effect on blogging overall is a benefit for all. I just wish I had had the foresight to get engaged my self in that realm.

Here I sit in a ramshackle code intensive, ad-supported or shall I say ad surrounded environ, boasting of awesome ticket brokers and blogads while that little twerp Mini ZuD sits in a clean, uncluttered, easily updated single centered column of interesting sites and images, a new age internet jewel.

It's not fair that I maintain the six year old mantle of Typepad when that little bastard gets to spin around in tumblr. hosted newness and fresh paint feel of the next great thing...

Sucks for me, your ol' sage ZuDfunck

Long Form ZuDfunck Post, Tumblelogs Can't do!

Not that I am envious of the new age blogging platform called tumblelogs. Hell no! I have seen a few (mac manutia) of the upstart rebel bloggers who forsook tradition with their little tumblelogs, for those unaware, it is short form blogging, micro-blogging some say.

Twice now I have noticed their quoting of the greatest Bob Dylan song next to 'Like a Rolling Stone.' Well because I am a long form blog superior to my obscure rival Mini ZuD. I am going to quote the whole song, cause I can!

Johnny's in the basement
Mixing up the medicine
I'm on the pavement
Thinking about the government
The man in the trench coat
Badge out, laid off
Says he's got a bad cough
Wants to get it paid off
Look out kid
It's somethin' you did
God knows when
But you're doin' it again
You better duck down the alley way
Lookin' for a new friend
The man in the coon-skin cap
In the big pen
Wants eleven dollar bills
You only got ten

Maggie comes fleet foot
Face full of black soot
Talkin' that the heat put
Plants in the bed but
The phone's tapped anyway
Maggie says that many say
They must bust in early May
Orders from the D. A.
Look out kid
Don't matter what you did
Walk on your tip toes
Don't try "No Doz"
Better stay away from those
That carry around a fire hose
Keep a clean nose
Watch the plain clothes
You don't need a weather man
To know which way the wind blows

Get sick, get well
Hang around a ink well
Ring bell, hard to tell
If anything is goin' to sell
Try hard, get barred
Get back, write braille
Get jailed, jump bail
Join the army, if you fail
Look out kid
You're gonna get hit
But users, cheaters
Six-time losers
Hang around the theaters
Girl by the whirlpool
Lookin' for a new fool
Don't follow leaders
Watch the parkin' meters

Ah get born, keep warm
Short pants, romance, learn to dance
Get dressed, get blessed
Try to be a success
Please her, please him, buy gifts
Don't steal, don't lift
Twenty years of schoolin'
And they put you on the day shift
Look out kid
They keep it all hid
Better jump down a manhole
Light yourself a candle
Don't wear sandals
Try to avoid the scandals
Don't wanna be a bum
You better chew gum
The pump don't work
'Cause the vandals took the handles

Graphic Portrayal of What Makes Success

Zz27d4cc85

I hired a top notch consultant to guide me through my lack of success and this is what I get.

An online web designer reality show? Really?

“A competitive online reality show where web designers battle for online glory & a $5,000 payday”

Yes, really. At least I hope so!

I’ve always enjoyed Bravo’s line of reality shows - Project Runway, Top Chef, Top Design. They’re the only reality shows I can tolerate, mainly because there’s actually craft and skill involved in winning - not just backstabbing, lying, sex appeal, luck, etc.

While watching them I always wished someone would make a competitive reality show about web designers. If they could make designing dresses and sorbets interesting, surely they could make competing against other web designers to make the best mockups, redesigns, font choices, HTML and CSS interesting. But I eventually realized that if I ever wanted to watch that show - which I do and hope you do too - I’d have to make it myself - which I am.
