The new Hunter S Thompson? MATT TAIBBI...

The_new_nixon_3

Imus swears by this guy! MATT TAIBBII don't know, they'll never be another HST but this guy has the forum for now in Rolling Stone and we could all use a fresh perspective.

Penn is the Democratic version of Karl Rove. He even looks like Rove, only he's fatter and more disgusting. Up close in a forum like this, his eyes bulge out of his fat, blood-flushed head; his neck spills out of his too-tight shirt collar; and he generally looks like Jabba the Hutt, his suit bursting at the seams, with only the bowl of snackable live toads suspended at arm's length missing from the picture.

After Obama's win in Iowa, everyone familiar with the Clintons and how they operate could have set their watches by the Hillary camp's inevitable decision to start reminding America of the dangers of electing a black teenager on coke. There is now a sudden sense on the campaign trail that the electoral chaos of the last year is a thing of the past, that this race is once again back in the hands of scaly Washington pros like Penn, the whole contest reduced to a series of empty PR ploys on the level of a staged crying fit and a series of back-channel character attacks. The Clintons are back, running things as they always have, with their back-stabbing, inside-baseball mastery, their fanatical, almost religious pursuit of the political fork in the road, their boundless faith in ruthless corporate bagmen of the Penn genus and other such faceless electoral point-shavers.

This all becomes punishingly obvious when Penn, smiling broadly, leans into the hive of spin-room microphones and announces with a straight face that Barack Obama's refusal to describe himself as a "chief operating officer" of the government bureaucracy marks a "critical distinction" in the race.

Fox Goes SRO Ad-wise for Super Bowl

Lets just hope the ads are funny:

Sources at Fox confirmed today (Jan. 29) that the final in-game Super Bowl commercial spot for the Feb. 3 telecast has been sold, but officials at the network were mum as to who it was sold to. And some within the network indicated that it might have not been sold to a new advertiser but instead to an one already in the game, either as another unit or as an add-on, boosting a 30-second spot to a 60-second unit.

At&t and Verizon Up Rates

Shame on folks who allow this to happen, Vonage is cheap, Skype is practical, Lots of options don't act like it is 1982 dump em, of course if you have an iPhone its not as easy but if you have options that is the only way to Squelch this kind of monopolistic pricing!

AT&T and Verizon are raising prices for caller ID and other popular phone services by as much as 300%, even as they continue to push regulators to loosen up because of increased competition.

AT&T (T) and Verizon (VZ) have argued they need pricing flexibility to compete with cable TV and others offering Internet-based phone services. Dozens of states have acquiesced, giving carriers freedom to jack up prices.

In California this month, AT&T raised prices for several stand-alone features: Anonymous call rejection now costs $5 from $1.90; caller ID rose to $9.99 from $6.17. Some local toll calls — calls that aren't considered long-distance but don't qualify as local — jumped by more than 200%.

In Ohio, AT&T raised the price of call forwarding and three-way calling from $4 each to $5.99. Automatic call back now costs $1.99 per use, up from 70 cents.

Verizon has made similar moves. Call forwarding now costs $3 a month in Ohio, a 300% increase from 75 cents. Call waiting is now $5 a month, up from $3.

Dude is still around

So in case you think I faded I didn't. Just trying to get I over the sticker shock of the MacBook Air. Holy Jesus 3100 bucks for that beauty? Not in this lifetime. Too many mouths to feed and debts to pay to swallow that transaction! I am typing this entry on my iPhone which will be my last luxury for sometime. Last year I had a MacBook and it didn't really set the world ablaze, so I can't see why that would change now. Jobs did update the iPhone with some new features so I thank'em for that. Its still the coolest gizmo I own and upgradeable anytime they want to throw us a bone.

Why We Do It

Though a bit dated, this is one Vlog post I am most proud of.  Dial a Trip is long gone and vlogging isn't what I do lately, so substitute  Blog for Vlog and this message still applies.
