OvalScream Has The Answer to NASCAR Withdrawal

A faithful ZuDDie Ovalscream has the answer to my previous post about dealing with my withdrawal symptoms:

Three times a day til April 27, take the loudest appliance you have and lock yourself into the bathroom with it. (Me, I'm taking the vacuum into the shower stall.) Crank that sucker up as far as it will go, scream "Talladega" til you're hoarse and whack the appliance against the wall till it sounds like car parts sprinkling all over the pavement. Dunk your head under the spigot and pretend it's hillbilly champagne showering all you as you do burnouts in Victory Lane. File your teeth in the mirror and pray to the spirit of the Intimidator that every Sprint Cup driver gets so riled up that they howl at the moon every night until the next race.

Kevin Harvick Wants to Pee in the Cup

Kevin Harvick wants NASCAR to institute drug testing. According to this article from ESPN.com Terry Blount these Quotes stand out:

"In the 10 years that I've raced, I've never been drug-tested," Harvick said. "To me, that's not a proper drug policy for a professional sport. We haven't made any headway whatsoever on the drug-testing policy."

Harvick and Stewart were reacting to an ESPN The Magazine story this week in which former driver Aaron Fike said he competed in Craftsman Truck Series races while he was on heroin.

"I have been in a race with him and I know for a fact that he's not the only one," Harvick said. "There's another driver that was suspended that I can almost guarantee you was in the race car while he was under the influence, and that pisses me off.

"I'm sure I'll be blasted for saying what I feel, but I don't want to be on a race track with people like that. It's irresponsible more than anything."

"I'm sure I'll have to do it for speaking my mind," Harvick said. "But if I have to pee in a cup 15 times a year, I'm happy to do it.

Regardless how you may feel about Happy Harvick, the dude speaks his mind and from a distance seems to be concerned about the integrity of NASCAR and his participation in it.

Do NASCAR Fans Watch HBO's The Wire

Every Monday nite I hurriedly access Comcast's on Demand and watch a sneak peak of The Wire, If you are a fan you know by now that Omar got popped buying a pack of Newports and all hell is about to break loose for the Good and the Bad guys. I wanted to post about this show as I have in the past but was concerned as to whether or not NASCAR fans can be HBO drama fans, such as The Wire, John from Cincinnati or the prematurely shelved classic Deadwood.

So I'll open it up in the comment section and you give me your thoughts. Right off you're entertainment dollars might be going to DirecTV or Trackpass and don't have monies left for HBO, or digital cable. Yes ZuD does recognize all is not good for many of us. But if we can put aside that Magilla, What Do You Think?

And here is an image of my boy Omar, who I thought could have had a spin-off series once the Wire ends one episode from now:

Anger at Teresa Earnhardt Explored

Far be it for me to open up Old Wounds but I think it's important to not let go of the role Teresa Earnhardt played in the fact there is a Car # 88 and Mark Martin driving Car # 8. I was never that hooked up to Junior, I don't own memorabilia that is now obsolete, but apparently this dude feels for those who do:

Teresa_earnhardtBut they should not be angry at Dale Earnhardt Jr. Their anger should be directed at one person – Teresa Earnhardt, Dale Sr.’s widow and Junior’s stepmom.

It is because of her that Dale Earnhardt Jr. had no choice but to leave DEI and will now wind up driving for another Chevrolet team.

So when you have to throw away your red No. 8 T-shirts and buy new Junior gear (with part of the proceeds going to Richard Childress Racing or Joe Gibbs Racing or Hendrick Motorsports, and not into the Earnhardt coffers at DEI), don’t blame Earnhardt Jr.

It’s Teresa Earnhardt who just cost you money and spit on your loyalty.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. driving for the family team his father founded was one of the most special relationships in sports. Not anymore. Now it’s being busted up like a bad marriage.

Texas Motor Speedway NASCAR Drivers Billboard Followup

In Follow up to previous post about Junior's TMS Billboard NASCAR's Ranting and Raving Blog had this:

Tms_billboard

To quote:

Each billboard is catchy. Tony Stewart's says, "Reason #20: Road Rage", while Jimmie Johnson's declares, "Reason 48: Twice as good as 24", and Jeff Gordon's states, "Reason #24: 81 Cup wins. Zip at Texas". But perhaps the most controversial is Dale Jr's which slams Teresa Earnhardt by stating, "Reason #88: Step Mom".

With a well placed phone call by Kelley Earnhradt Elledge, President of JR Motorsports, to TMS president Eddie Gossage, the Dale Jr billboards will be changed over the next 2 weeks and replaced with the new slogan, "Reason #88: New Car Smell".

Going to your First NASCAR Race?

Ok, dyed-in-the-wool NASCAR Fans don't get upset with ZuD. I present this (a bit dated) list as a public service to the liberal, Democrats or naive who may not fathom what they are getting into when they attend their first NASCAR event:

Eight tips for your first race, blue-state edition

Talladega Nights director and co-writer Adam McKay offers these eight suggestions — in honor of Junior's No. 8 car:

1. First, get an ice scraper and remove that Howard Dean bumper sticker.

2. If you bring your own beer, don't bring Amstel Lite or Heineken. Bring Budweiser. That's what Junior drinks.

3. Instead of that Polo jacket, wear a Junior red jacket and cap.

4. When you don't know what to do in a crowd, stand up, pump your fist in the air and yell "Whooo!"

5. Go ahead: Grab yourself a turkey leg. There are worse things to eat. Like soy bacon.

6. If a drunken rube demands that a woman show him her breasts, she should say: "I'm sorry, sir. I'm a cop." Or even better, "I'm sorry, sir. I'm a lesbian cop."

7. Do not bring a copy of The Kite Runner to read. Or, wrap it in the outside jacket of the Dale Jr. story.

8. It can take four hours to leave the track. Bring a good book on tape to listen to or NPR's This American Life. But if you drive with the windows down, it's safer to play Hank Williams Jr.'s Greatest Hits.
